Privacy Policy — MT: Stocktake & Stock Count
Last updated: 29 September 2026. Developer: Merchant Tools. Contact: support@merchanttools.eu.
What the app does
MT: Stocktake & Stock Count lets merchants count physical inventory with a phone camera, review discrepancies against Shopify, and apply the resulting inventory adjustments. To do so it keeps a temporary copy of the variants being counted.
Data we store
- Store data: the store domain, an access token (encrypted at rest) and the app settings.
- Count data: for each count session, the location name, product and variant titles, SKUs, barcodes, unit costs, expected and counted quantities, the device name typed by the merchant, and a log of scans. Kept for the retention period of the plan (30 days to 2 years), then deleted.
- Write log: a record of every inventory adjustment sent to Shopify (date, number of variants, result).
We do not collect or store customer personal data (names, emails, addresses, orders). Camera images are decoded on the device by the browser and are never uploaded.
Permissions
The app requests read_products, read_inventory, read_locations to list what to count, and write_inventory which is used only when the merchant explicitly applies a count. The app never modifies products, prices, orders or customers.
Support chat
If you write to us through the chat bubble in the app, we store your messages, our replies and any attachment, together with the store name, its myshopify domain, the store contact email and the plan, so that we know which store we are helping. The chat runs on our own server (Chatwoot, open-source software that we host at OVHcloud, France); no chat provider receives these messages. Conversations are kept for 24 months after the last message, then deleted automatically, or earlier on request. The chat stores a conversation identifier in your browser (cookie cw_conversation) so that an open conversation continues across pages; it is not used for tracking.
Where data is processed
Servers and the database are hosted by OVHcloud in Gravelines (France), within the European Union. Encrypted backups are stored by Scaleway in Paris (France) and kept for at most 35 days.
Emails
We keep the store's contact email to send one setup email after installation, with the steps to activate the app, and to answer your support requests. We send no newsletters and no marketing emails. Reply STOP to that email, or write to support@merchanttools.eu, and we will not email you again except to answer your own support requests. If you reply STOP, we keep only a record of that choice (your store domain and a one-way hash of the email address), even after you uninstall, so that it is still respected if you reinstall.
Retention and deletion
- When the app is uninstalled, all data for that store is deleted immediately, and again on Shopify's
shop/redactrequest 48 hours later; it leaves our encrypted backups within 35 days. - We honor Shopify's
customers/data_requestandcustomers/redactwebhooks; as we hold no customer data, these return an empty record.
Sharing
We do not sell or share data with third parties. Data is only processed by our hosting providers (OVHcloud, and Scaleway for encrypted backups) under their data-processing terms.
Changes
We may update this policy; the date above indicates the latest version. Questions: support@merchanttools.eu.
